Fire Features

The Reason to Stay Outside.

A fire feature is what pulls a family outside on a cool November evening. We design and build masonry fireplaces, fire pits, and integrated hearths that read as architecture for the patio — not as hardware bolted to it.

Approach

How we draw and build fire features.

Begin a Project

Every fire feature we draw is masonry-first. Fireboxes are constructed from refractory brick, flue and chimney runs are sized for proper draft, and the surround is clad in stone or brick that ties the feature to the home. Gas, wood-burning, and dual-fuel options are all available.

Every fire feature we draw is masonry-first.

We coordinate the gas line, ventilation, and any required permits as part of the build. Most fire features take four to six weeks of dedicated mason time once the patio is laid.

Why Yardie

Three reasons for fire features.

  • Freestanding brick fireplace with arched wood-storage alcoves on each side.

    01 · Fire Features

    Masonry-first construction

Every firebox is laid in refractory brick by Yardie masons — no prefab inserts.

  • Brick firepit with built-in bench on a rear patio.

    02 · Fire Features

    Designed into the patio

We draw the fire feature with the patio so it reads as a piece of architecture, not an add-on.

  • Rear-patio firepit with stone-veneer surround.

    Permitted and inspected

Gas runs, flue sizing, and chimney detailing meet code on every install.

FAQ

Common questions.

The questions we’re asked most often about fire features. Don’t see yours? Send us a note.

  • Wood smells better and reads more romantic; gas is convenient and clean. Many of our clients install both — a gas burner for weeknight use, a wood chamber for weekends. We're happy to walk both options before you commit.
  • Wood-burning fireplaces require an annual chimney sweep and inspection. We can refer the local sweep we trust.
  • Yes — but with attention to clearance, smoke draft, and surface protection. We design every fire pit to local code and well clear of the home's eaves and overhangs.
  • Four to six weeks of dedicated mason time, plus design and permitting upfront. Larger architectural fireplaces with chimneys can run eight to ten weeks.
