Our approach treats the home's architecture as the primary design reference — plant material, stone, paving, and hardscape forms are all chosen to be in dialogue with what's already there, not to overlay a contemporary aesthetic on a historic property. The goal is always for the finished exterior to feel like it has always belonged to the property.

Neuse River waterfront properties present specific design considerations: plant material with appropriate salt and moisture tolerance, hardscape drainage that manages toward the water without erosion, and lighting that creates ambiance on the water-facing elevation. We also design carefully for the visual relationship between the home and the river — screening, framing, and transitional landscape that makes the most of the waterfront orientation while maintaining privacy and protecting the bank. Our New Bern projects typically begin as full-property engagements: a complete landscape plan (planting design, lawn establishment or restoration, tree and shrub placement), custom hardscape (patio, walkways, steps, outdoor living structures), masonry features (walls, columns, garden structures), architectural lighting, and irrigation designed for the complete plant palette.
